Vizio Sets Its Mark With WiFi HDTV

Vizio is a renowned name when it comes to High Definition TVs and living up to their name, the association from Irvine has been thinking of making their vision of a first Wi-Fi HDTV a reality to the great delight of the users worldwide. The new version of the Vizio TVs is set for release by the last quarter of 2009.

The first Wi-Fi HDTV will have a QWERTY remote and access to Yahoo widgets. The 55 inch LED backlit LCD will also feature a USB jack called Vudu that would ensure that you can play and view music and images in all video formats from a connected drive. The remote has a QWERTY keyboard that can be slid out and has Bluetooth capabilities. The Wi-Fi HDTV will also have the intelligent dimming technology that turn off a LCD and enlarges blacks.

The HDTV will have internet connectivity that is definitely going to woo the users. The Wi-Fi HDTV will also give you the freedom to do away with the router as it has a Wi-Fi 802.11n modems to help you bond wirelessly. The usage of Yahoo widgets would mean that users can set up an interactive environment for themselves.

In a time where many companies have decided to hold back the Yahoo widget channel, the HDTV from Vizio would also have the Adobe supports. The 1080p HDTV also comes at smaller sizes of 47 and 42 inches. Vizio has left the major world companies class behind with this HDTV which is first of its kind.

Can Yahoo Save You Cash?

Daily deals is simple enough: deals appear on the website for a certain amount of time, usually 24 hours. Everything from Ottomans to watches are up for grabs. Most of the deals are powered through third parties, like Woot, TechBargains, and others.

Coupons and Weekly Ads, however, are aggregators of deals. They scour places like CouponMountain, Dealnews, ESticker, HSN, and Amazon for the most recent deals. You can save them or comment on them as well. Weekly Ads lets you print out the classic coupon pages and books you get in the mail, which actually becomes useful when you go to buy groceries. There are also little additions like a widget for finding cheap gas near your location, contests, and video tips on saving cash (though I havent’ seem those pop up yet).

Overall, the new Yahoo Deals is a coupon and savings aggregator, and a good one at that. Quickly search for your store or product and you’ll probably find something. Being able to print out grocery coupons will quickly add up to big savings. And its partnerships gives it exclusive discounts others don’t have. Saving money is still sexy, and Yahoo Deals will fulfill that need if you have to penny pinch.

Sony PS3 Slim Shipping Today

Sony PS3 Slim officially will be shipping today one week earlier from it’s initially slated September 1st release. Amazon updated PS3 Slim listing to be shipping as early as tomorrow which accordingly reflected to GameStop listing.

Seemingly this is a major surprise for those willingly gamers who pre-ordered the console, but such intriguing Sony’s decision is shipping the console earlier than announced. Most likely what comes on my mind is Microsoft’s Xbox 360 price-cut which is expected to slash price of Xbox 360 Elite to $299.99. This could be Sony’s precaution to lure buyers before Xbox comes into price competition.

So far, the new Sony PS3 Slim clearly has an edge with Xbox, with cheaper price, features and slim design, plus the hype that its ‘new’. Now I don’t hear about Wii?

New Iphone App Lets You Buy Shoes

By Lisa Palladino on shopping

There's likely no end in sight to the number of iPhone apps to come. So I'm going to tell you about one more, OK? You'll thank me. Actually, thank The New York Times: Designer fashion hub Net-a-Porter.com released its iPhone application, the Net-App, in mid-July. Shoppers can browse handbags, clothes and shoes; read the site's weekly fashion stories; and make purchases. The Times noted that even though some people use their cell phones to buy virtual goods to use in mobile games or e-books to read on their phones, the masses have not shown much willingness to buy physical goods - especially expensive ones - from their cell phones. (Kind of like how early online purchases, of anything, were made by the few and the brave; now, it's second nature.)

But Net-a-Porter.com, which went live in 2000 and states it has 1.8 million visitors a month, succeeded in getting people to buy $4,000 gowns and $1,000 stilettos on the Web, so iPhone app success may be in sight. The potential for shopping on phones "is massive," said Alison Loehnis, v.p. of sales and marketing at Net-a-Porter.com, in the Times. "We feel very strongly that third-generation technology is the new shop window. No one wants to be bound to their computer anymore."

Net-a-Porter.com is not the first to offer an iPhone shopping app: there's Lucky at Your Service from Lucky magazine and ShopStyle Mobile from ShopStyle. Net-a-Porter, however, developed a tool it calls ClosetFlow, which shows users small images of new products to thumb through. Shoppers can zoom in, flip the phone to look at items from different directions, and read more detailed information about them. The shopper can add the items to a wish list to access later from a computer or buy from within the application, without opening a separate browser window.

Loehnis noted in the article: "Our customers love to shop from their homes or offices, but we want our customers to be able to shop from a cab or while waiting in line and really maximize what little free time they have."

Nimbuzz Application For Android Launches!

If you’re not satisfied with the default chat and instant messaging options in Android or 3rd party solutions on the market, you might be happy to know that Nimbuzz is now available on the Android Market. The application serves as an all-in-one Skype, MSN, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, AIM, studiVZ, GoogleTalk, Facebook, MySpace, Jabber client and many more.

The folks at Nimbuzz told us that the Android version has some sophisticated features which they further explain in their press release / blog announcement:
The smart buddy list layout displays information in an intelligent way, combining avatar and presence information in one, with community icon and resource information (if your buddy is online on the mobile or PC) in the same line.

The time sensitive UI is a favorite. It detects how long you press on a buddy’s name. A light touch opens their profile and a stronger touch instantly starts a new chat!

Home-screen notifications alert you on the home screen of activities such as incoming chats while Nimbuzz continues to run in the background.
Clickable URLs make for a multimedia rich chat experience so you can share YouTube videos and Wikipedia information during your chat. A browser window will open from which you can seamlessly switch back and forth to Nimbuzz.

Auto reconnect is also very useful! For example, I often leave Nimbuzz running in the background while connected to a Wi-Fi network and before I know it I’m out of range and offline to all my friends. To prevent this, Nimbuzz detects whenever you are out of range, and if there isn’t a known Wi-Fi network available it connects you via 3G, and vice versa.

Unique to Android users is the fact that only Nimbuzz integrates Skype IM and local social networks such as Hyves in the Netherlands, StudiVZ from Germany, Gadu-Gadu from Poland, and Giovani from Italy - we didn’t forget you guys!

In addition to downloading Nimbuzz via Android Market, you can also download directly from the Nimbuzz website. Give it a whirl and let us know what you think. Will it become your default chat app? Do you find an alternative much better?By the way, the company has also said via their twitter account that they do NOT offer VoIP with this version and that it is “an Android issue” but that they will solve the problem soon!

5 Reasons To Build A FaceBook FanPage

By Lotame on Social network

Here are a quick 5 reasons why you should build a Facebook Fan Page:

1) Reach over 200,000,000 users

According to Mashable, “Twitter and Facebook Post Huge Growth Numbers in March,” Facebook grows about 23% every month and just below 200% in one year. Your Fan Page will continue to gain exposure to more and more users as time goes on.

2) Instantly send news updates regarding your company/industry

With the click of a button, your updates will be posted to the infamous Facebook “minifeed” for everyone to see. Besides the “minifeed,” the news can be sent directly to your fans alerting them that you have updated information.

3) Make your company more social with photos and videos

Clients want to be comfortable working with you. The photos and videos will allow them to get to know your company easily enabling them to put a face to the voice.

4) People who are not on Facebook can still find your Fan Page through online searches

This is a huge benefit to the Fan Page. For those few online users who do not have a Facebook account, they can still read all of the information on the Fan Page. People who do not have an account will not have the ability to receive updates.

5) For consumer goods, you can upload coupons or other types of discounts to those who are only a Fan of your company, potentially increasing your following

This can be a tool to reward those customers who engage in your product and decide to follow your company. It can be as small as a weekly discount to a chance to win prizes. This benefit is only for those Facebook users that are your fans.

The Facebook fan page is a free and helpful tool for every company, regardless of your industry. It will increase your reach allowing you to instantly alert your fans of important information. Make your Fan page today. If you have found any other reasons to make a Fan, please share them in the comments section.

Samsung Tegra Phone In The Works

Apart from the Zune HD, the impressive Nvidia Tegra chip is confirmed to be headed for use on smartphones with the earliest release date scheduled for Q4 of 2009. True to this report, Samsung has just disclosed that they are indeed working on a Tegra-based phone albeit keeping mum on its other specs and features. Likewise, since there’s very limited available info at the moment, we’re not exactly sure if they’ll actually be the first to release a Tegra-powered smartphone in the market this year, but as far as the record books are concerned, they are the first to officially admit it which is good enough in our books.

Motorola is the other company said to be working on a Tegra smartphone, but we’ve yet to get confirmation on this.

Nikon D5000 Digital SLR, (Review)

The D5000 has been an eagerly awaited replacement for the older model Nikon DSLR. There are plenty of significant changes in this model. Nikon switches to a CMOS sensor instead of the CCD it's been using in its entry-level models, in this case, the same 12.3-megapixel version that's in the D90. Plus there's the new (to Nikon's dSLRs) flip-down-and-swivel LCD, and an improved AF system--the same 11-point AF system as the D90--that distinguish it clearly from the cheaper D60. But, as frequently happens, this poses quite a bit of competition for the more expensive D90. Especially since it has a newer version of the Expeed image processor (with improved Auto Active D-Lighting and face-priority AF) and enhanced Live View AF, along with a connector for the optional GP-1 hot shoe GPS. It also supports direct wireless upload when you use an Eye-Fi card.

The D5000 is available in two configurations, at least from Nikon: body only and a kit with the 18-55mm VR lens.

Many stores are selling it between $780-$850.

Verizon Lowers Storm Price

Verizon has cut the price of the popular BlackBerry Storm smart phone to $99, InformationWeek reported over the weekend. The move comes amid reports that BlackBerry maker Research in Motion is readying a second version of the device.

The Storm, which was introduced late last year, previously cost around $200.

Is This The iPod killer?

Since its market release, consumers are becoming quite interested in the new Teclast T50 player with Multi-point touch screen. With the same elegant look and feel of the Apple iPod Touch, the Teclast offers full-screen touch control, and comparable audio and video capability. The Teclast T50 also marks a historical landmark, being the the first portable audio-visual device to be developed by domestic manufacturers in China.

The Teclast T50 supports MP3, WMA, FLAC, AAC, and APE Audio formats, and AVI, RM, RMVB, FLV, MP4, VOB, and DAT Video Playback Formats. These files are stored on a internal memory ranging from 2-8 GB depending on specifications. This MP5 player also offers Scroll Flo Technology and an FM Radio.
You may think that an MP5 player with iPod Touch software and hardware configuration would cost almost as much as the original. However, the wholesale price on Bigboxstore.com, whose merchandise is all factory direct, is just $87.50. If you are planning to buy an iPod Touch, but are hesitant about spending $200-300, consider the Teclast T50 as an affordable alternative.

RBC smartphone chart Who can keep track of all the touchscreen smartphones — and their attendant app stores — that emerged from Mobile World Congress this week to compete with Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone?

RBC Capital’s Mike Abramsky can. Attached to a report to clients released Friday is a handy chart of “emerging competitors” that covers most of the latest mobile operating systems: Palm’s (PALM) webOS, Microsoft’s (MSFT) Windows Mobile 6.5, Google’s (GOOG) Android, Nokia’s (NOK) Symbian S60 and couple of proprietary outliers.

The chart would be more realistic if it included the two smartphones battling most fiercely for the U.S. market: the iPhone and Research in Motion’s (RIMM) BlackBerry.

But it’s hard to tell the players without a scorecard, and this is a good start. The full chart is posted below the fold, with thanks to AppleInsider.
